Mission & Vision

Verdugo Woodlands Elementary School, a TK-6 dynamic, diverse and safe community-based learning environment, ensures the development of academically and socially successful individuals by implementing effective programs which promote academic achievement, understanding, and respect among students, staff, family, and community.

Verdugo Woodlands is a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school. PBIS is a way for our school to encourage good behavior. With PBIS, we teach kids about behavior, just as we would teach about other subjects like reading or math. The focus of PBIS is prevention, not punishment.

Verdugo Woodlands has celebrated academic excellence since 1926! We are proud of our accomplishments and our academic performance. We recently completed construction paid for through Glendale's Measure S and California's Overcrowding Relief Grant (ORG). The new twenty-classroom, two-story building houses eighteen classrooms, a new computer lab, and library. Our school community continues the many traditions that bring our school and families together, including our Fall Festival, Dads’ Club Pancake Breakfast, “Survivor Challenge,” our themed Family Reading Night, and Fathers’ Follies just to name a few.

Our parents are a critical component of our success. The Verdugo Woodlands Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and foundation, Woodlanders Are Volunteers for Education (W.A.V.E.) provide outstanding supplemental educational experiences for our students. These include the Meet the Masters fine arts program, Taiko Drumming, in-school Drama-Theater Arts and Visual Arts programs, third grade recorders, financial assistance for a care counselor, technology, and student intervention support programs.

Our Foreign Language Academy of Glendale (FLAG) Japanese program offers students in kindergarten through 6th grade the opportunity to become bilingual and biliterate in both English and Japanese, thereby expanding their horizons and opportunities in our growing global society.

The Verdugo Woodlands school community, including staff, parents, students, and community members, is dedicated to working together to ensure a quality learning experience for all our children.
